M38 rifle and M91/30 rifle bayonet lockup?
Wont the M38 rifle utilize the pig sticker cruciform bayonet from the M91/30 rifle with no issue?
Really like the M91/30 rifle but prefer the length of the M38 rifle and wanted all the accessories that come with the M91/30 rifle though, but don't plan on doing any bayonet charges any time soon , lol.

Russian Model 38 carbine didn't take a bayonet. Maybe your confusing it with another rifle? 0 -
No, aren't the front of the barrels of the M91/30 and M38 rifles ahead of the hand guards relatively the same... iirc the M91/30 bayonet has its own locking mechanism and the muzzle ring simply fits over the muzzle and locks onto the front sight post and barrel, although I don't have an M38 to examine unfortunately however it should theoretically work the same inm. 0 -

Okay, but it sure looks like it would work...maybe someone with an M38 rifle and a M91/30 rifle bayonet would check it just to see as I am intrigued now...
Hmm, with the barrel banded front sight on the M38 rifle and not on the M91/30 rifle I am not sure now; but perhaps it might still work, however unsure how the M91/30 rifle's front sight is attached to the barrel though...0 -
I just reviewed my examples and don't see that a Model-91 or
91/30 bayonet were designed to attach to a M-38 or a M-91/59.

No I think your right, but as I recall someone was able to do it but I don't remember what it entailed. Now if the barrel band wasn't present on the M38 rifle then it should duplicate the M91/30 rifle and work. 0 -
I don't know if a 91/30 bayonet will fit on an M38. I'm a bit skeptical, but since the bayonets can be had for $20, its not exactly an expensive experiment to try if you're so inclined.
If you really want a Moisin carbine with a bayonet, I'd say instead get yourself an M44. They're common enough, and the integral folding bayonet design makes more sense, than the 91/30 bayonet.
More important, frankly, even if you could get a 91/30 bayonet to fit, I find it hard to imagine why you'd actually want to do mount it!
The 91/30 bayonet is bulky and the cruciform shape limits its use for anything OTHER than a bayonet (ie its not a practical knife or other tool). IMO it would also be a shame to mess up the bluing near the muzzle of your M38 even trying this.
From the perspective of 19th century Russian infantry doctrine, a long rifle with a long bayonet makes sense. . .its basically a pike that can also shoot bullets.
From the perspective of a 21st century sportsman, or even survivalist. . .FAIL. The whole point of the M38 was to get away from the bulky long rifle and bayonet.0 -
Yeah I know, just wanted the M91/30 kit to work with the M38 rifle is all and not be some sort of weird wall hanger or tent peg I guess and it does look cool for about 5 minutes mounted as a pig sticker as well. 0 -
The bayo has to be fitted to the rifle, some of them are pretty snug. The loop in the Mosin tool is to grip the bayo, and give you some leverage when turning it, to lock or unlock it on and off.

Right, have you tried to fit a M91/30 bayonet to an M38 rifle and if so did you get it to work? 0
