Pre 64 model 70 value
I have a model 70 pre-64 s/n 27575. Original with scope mounted and about 1 inch cut off barrel. How do i find an approximate value?

I am getting ready to peddle/trade my old varmint rifle and would appreciate it if anyone could give me an estimate of the rifle's value on today's market.
The rifle is a Pre 64 Model 70 22 Hornet in Standard Rifle configuration. Overall I would rate it at 90%. It has a very professionally installed (no ugly screwheads or pins showing) Griffin and Howe side mount. The only negative is the rear sight is missing.

If you are looking for a "collector" Model 70, that rifle is not it. Save your $$$ for a different Winchester. 0 -

I agree with both of you. As Bert mentioned it is in no way a collector however as you mentioned Cartod it does seem like a pretty good deal. I guess I could maybe make some $$ off of it. 0 -

Buy it , put it up and keep an eye out for the parts you need to cherry it out . Then it will be correct and if you can find a nice original stock maybe a collector too ! at least thats my 2 cents . I can't imagine you would ever lose any money on it ! 0 -

This is not a way to start a collection at all. The rifle is not original as it left the factory and there are parts missing. Skip it if you're looking for something to collect as original.
However...
All is not lost, especially considering the price. An alternative use is to create a fine quality, collectible rifle using the Pre-'64 action. All it takes is some time and money. You end up with a superb rifle with a value exceeding the money it cost to assemble it. This is an example:
It can become a family heirloom or it can be marketed to the folks who collect top quality rifles.

If as you say you don't want to shoot it, pass. It is a shooter, and of no interest to collectors. You will not see a collector model 70 this side of $1000 or more. 0 -
That is a really great rifle for the price. However, as noted, it's not a collector piece.
To own and shoot one is a pleasure. It just seems like a little more thought went into the ergonomics of those rifles. Not to mention how they were finished out. Having the butt pad will be nicer than shooting the original metal buttplate anyhow. Shoot it and enjoy it. As nn said, if you want something collectable about it, build into a really nice custom.
There are probably a few custom gunmakers around that would love to snap that thing up at that price.0
