Remington Model 11

I have a Rem. M11 that has a 28" cyl. bore. Is this factory?
It is a 28" solid rib barrel, and is marked CYL underneath
the barrel, right in front of the extension.

  I have a Model 11 Remington marked with "Property U.S.Navy"
  that needs a barrel with the CUTTS Compensator. Is their a difference between the Model 11 and the "SPORTSMAN" barrels?
  Thanx for help..... I know squat about shotguns and want to acquire a "correct" barrel with Cutts for this WWII veteran

  left side just in front of the receiver there should be either 2 or 3 letters on the barrel which is the barrel code which is the easist way to date a Remington

  There is no letter code on the barrel. I removed the forend to make sure one wasn't covered up. If I understand correctly, Remington started using the letter code in 1921. The last patent date on my barrel is June 16, 1903. Any help is appreciated.

  Right in front of the recevier very hard to see mine was built in 1926 and the serial number is a lot lower then yours 22xxx

  Serial #774139 would hit about the last year of model 11 production in the late forties. The post war guns had the game scene on each side of the reciever. If your gun doesn't have those, then you need to take a closer look at the number.
  
  Best bet would be to go to "The Remington Society" website and scroll through the MANY pages of records they have on file and look the guns production date up by the serial number.

  If your barrel doesn't have the date code it may be a replacement barrel. Look on the barrel to see if the shotgun's serial number is stameped in it. I believe the sn on the barrel will be on the ring that goes around the magazine tube.

  What I suggested might be a D or a 7-- see my original post-- looks a lot like a "close bracket." Also, the safety is inside the trigger guard in front of the trigger. The stock is nicely checkered, and the barrel has a solid rib with a last patent date of June 16, 1903. The gun may have been restocked as the checkered buttplate is marked "Bishop."
