Marlin 39-a

I just acquired a 39-a with serial # 1672 this gun has no bulls eye on the stock but has sling swivel's. can ayone help with the date of manufacture for this gun? There is no letter prefix to the serial number.

  The 16 indicates 1984 manufacture.
