Cobray M11/9mm
I recently aquired a Cobray parts kit and there was a "weld kit" that came with it. Basically the weld kit contains the parts to make your own receiver. The parts kit is a semi-auto kit. No problem. The receiver weld kit I'm not so sure about and neither was the previous owner. Can any of you tell me what, if any, the differences are between a semi and FA cobray receiver? I'd hate to build this thing and then get jammed up over some hole placement or other nonsense. Thanks.

There were two generations of the semi auto M 11's. First dating to the early 80's used a open bolt mechanism with a fixed firing pin. The feds decided these were two easy to convert so banned them. The later ones used a conventional semi auto mechanism that couldn't be easily converted.
If your parts kit has a bolt with a fixed firing pin I wouldn't be fooling around with it. If it has a floating firing pin that is hammer or striker actuated, probably can be built up into a M 11 without potential legal problems.0 -
The parts kit doesn't have the fixed firing pin so it's closed bolt. I was mainly worried about the receiver itself. I want to make sure I'm putting semi parts in a semi receiver. AR's are my specialty. AR receivers are really easy to tell apart. Just look for the extra hole over the selector lever. This is my first venture with a Cobray so I was wondering what to look for. 0 -
Most m11/nine flats I've seen have the "semi-full" writing, or sometimes just "semi" imprinted on the left side that's flanked by dimple-stops for the selector lever.. the hole would pass thru there if it's a full auto for the "full-semi" rotator selector switch.
Semi auto receiver will have one pass-thru hole located slightly above the "safe-fire" writing that's imprinted on the right side of the receiver, this hole is for the semi's "safe-fire" rotator selector switch.
Full auto's generally have a "slide switch" safety.
Semi auto's generally have a "rotator switch" safety
