The July 1, 1942 Catalog of Component Parts for Winchester Rifles & Shotguns lists for the Model 63 part # 863 "Butt stock
pistol grip complete fancy checked with P. G. rubber cap and screw at a price of $9.30 and part #863A "Butt stock,
pistol grip complete fancy wood, fancy checkered with P. G. rubber cap and screw at at a price of $23.70.

Both items mention the stock having a rubber grip cap that is not pictured on the rifle in question. The catalog does not
have a photo of either butt stock.

Trivia....Please note that item 863 stock is described as "checked" and item 863A is described as "checkered". FWIW

The checkering on your Model 63 is not factory work. It is too coarse, it does not have a border, and it is not one of the standard Winchester checkering patterns.

Having checkered a few stocks I would say that is a learner's effort. The diamonds are not properly finished, they are not of uniform size and the design not very well laid out.
