kahr p9

I just recieved a kahr p9 off of the auction side and the empty mags will not fall free from the gun when the mag release is pushed. you have to pull the empty out before reloading. I am assuming that this isn't normal. What needs to be done?

  I'm looking for a CC gun, and felt that Kahr's P9 felt good in my hand, was very small, had decent capacity and I was told that it is a very well made gun. Does anyone have feedback (pro or con)?

  These mags are fairly small and light in weight so they don't have a lot of mass to pull them free of the mag well. You might try giving your wrist a flick to the side as the mag release is pressed - this works with mine. If not, call Kahr and talk to their customer service people. They are very helpful.

  Mine drop right out, always have. It is one of the first ones out.
  The only thing I notice with mine is the mag release button is short and has to be pushed in all the way. Yours could have been made a little short.
  Like said call Kahr if you can't figure them out.

  I would let Kahr deal with it, if they must be drop free. Personally, I would take reliability over drop free, and there might be a fine line between both. Ideally I would like both, but I will take my going bang every time I pull the trigger with live rounds in the magazine, over drop free.

  I'd see if there are anything binding or a burr. My money's on the mag release dragging on the magazine. Maybe the release doesn't press far down enough. Easy enough to see when the slide is off and do the magazine dump.

  My Colt Pony is smaller and lighter than the Kahr, as are its magazines, and they all fall free as they should.
  
  First, try a different magazine or two. If some fall free and some don't, keep the ones that do. If all magazines stick, then contact the manufacturer.
  
  My muscle memory is programmed to punch the button and insert a fresh magazine. It would require a lot of re-training, which I am not willing to do, to become accustomed to pulling the magazine out by hand.
  
  An empty magazine is worthless; punch the button and forget about it. If it gets stepped on or lost, we can buy another one.
  
  Sticking magazines is what first turned me off to Glocks.

  Mine just drop out. Send it back to Kahr, they are very good on service.
