Russian Vepr
I have been kind of checking out Vepr rifles and was wondering what others thought of them. I like the idea of an accurate AK type rifle but I want to know what kind of groups one could expect

They are ok, and do well. Better than the Romak's, but not as good as some of the Arsenal built Milled recievers, or the SLR 95's I have seen.

I Totallay disagree! I have a lot less knowledge than tsr1965 , but have shot plenty of Ak's ... Norinco NHM91's that haven't been abused are very accurate and Vepr's in the 7.62x39 at 200 yds are very accurate... When I owned the nhm 91 my best friend (with the vepr 7.62 x 39 ) would go back and forth on accuracy... So since I hog hunt in Nasty areas and my browning bar 300 win jammed once with some dirt in the action... I bought a vepr 1 in the 308... It's very accurate with open sights at 100-200, but over 150yds wouldn't shoot at a coyote... A large piggie for sure ; or 200 off a bench. My friends Vepr is a vepr ll with the plastic stock and like my non-abused nhm-91 shoots with ANY top of the line semi-auto rifle close to the 7.62x39 round... Even cheap rounds like wolf ... We are members at red castle gun club and if u want to shoot my vepr contact me and buy some rounds... My vepr likes 150 gr. American eagles and any black hills gold... The others I've already told u about. The veprs will only go up in value... I carry it into the woods more than any other gun, but with the mount, steel rings and a 50 mm scope it's like 13 lbs with 10 168 gr barns pills in it so I sold the mount and it's just a open sight gun now. Don't listen to people who say veprs and norinco nhm 91's arnt accurate... Ask the retired detective in NY I sold my norinco to... Any anyone else who has owned a 20" chrome lined Vepr 0 -
i own and shoot a russian vepr with factory synthic stock in 308 and a arsenal 101s with a milled las vegas reciever and factory synthic stock in 7.62x39, both have original scope mounts with leupold scopes. the vepr in 308 is very accurect as is the arsenal 101s in 7.62x39 and man size targets out to 400 yds are easy to hit with either rifle useing the scopes from a rest. eastbank 0 -
How do they stack up to something like a PSL? 0 -
Very good firearms

I have Arsenal built AK and Robinson Arms built VEPRs. I would say they are about equal and either are better than the pre-ban Norinco and PolyTech AKs I owned. My SSG 97 PSL is very good, but I hate the look of the stock. 0 -
Was also interested in the Vepr which look to be based on the heavier RPK receiver and heavy barrel and if they were still being supplied from russia or not?
Is the Vepr proprietary to Vepr parts and mags only or mechanically the same as an AK/PSL for parts interchange and can they use AK/PSL hi-cap mags respectively considering the caliber?0 -
The guns arnt being made anymore as far as I know. And unless u modify either the mag or the gun they only accept Vepr mags. 0 -
Hmm, that's too bad as they certainly seem well made, not exactly like an AK with all the their features but nice enough; that Zastava PAP 'AK' looks cool as well but seems to only have the single stack mag well, ugh... 0
