Remington 600 with No Sights or Rib Ever
So I purchased this gun from the estate of a gun co. exec. The barrel is 18.5" long, appears to be original blue, all correct Remington logos, proofs, etc. No screw holes anywhere except one right near the receiver??!! Is this a common variation? IMHO, unless you can substantiate it left the Remington factory in condition/state it's in. It's just another customized carbine based on a 600 action. Needless to say the 600 series barreled actions are very popular with folks to customize in various ways. 0 -
Most likley a special order mohawk. They didn't have ribs on them. 0 -
The Mohawks I have seen say Mohawk on the receiver. This one says Remington 600?
Sure, lots of guns are customized. But there is usually some reason to it. Why would someone remove the barrel, weld all the sight and vent rib holes closed, repolish it so they are not visible whatsoever, and then expertly reblue it to factory condition. Oh, and they forgot that one hole up by the receiver! That absolutely does not make sense to me............ Now if it is a Mohawk barrel that someone put on there, that would make sense.0 -
Most of the gun companys have a program for employees to custom make factory guns ! Winchester did it , Remington and Colt did also and I think Ruger still does . That 600 is probably one of these and maybe one of a kind too . 0 -

Contact Remington customer service, get their e-mail and phone numbers off their online site. See if you can get a factory letter giving information on what configuration the 600 left the factory in. Without this letter or some other type of factual evidence like factory invoices etc. Nobody is going to accept that the 600 is factory original. Just because it's in excellent condition and looks unscrewed with, doesn't mean squat.0 -
Well everyone is welcome to their opinion. But as a Winchester collector, for example, I know there are no factory letters available from about 1907 to the present time. So each Winchester rifle has to stand or fall on its own merits, there is no letter to help you. I think the same is true of many other guns as well and maybe this one too. The market determines the value of guns. If people all think it is a humped up back yard custom, then the price will be $300. If people think it is a very unusual factory built gun then the price will be over $800. Having sold over 10,000 guns as a gun dealer since 1987, I know this to be true.
What I am really hoping is that another collector has one like this or knows something about it.0 -
I think what you have there is a 600 Mohawk that was made for Sears/Monkey wards stores.
The fact that it is in 6mm is rarer than the "no holes for sights" feature. Sears/Monkey ward ordered a Few of the 600"s built for them and remington [like so many others] put together whatever was cheap and on hand at the time. It is a "rare" gun, but not in the way to bring much more than a "normal" version.0 -
I had one just like that ..except 222 I believe,,Not marked Mohawk. so I know of at least 2,,,And everything was factory ,,I believe,,made in the 60s? 0 -
From the ad stating that this gun came from "the estate of an executive in the gun industry" I'd reckon he had pull and had them make anything he wanted. Maybe there's a note in the butt? 0 -
Since it came from the estate of a gun co exec perhaps it was a test or bench gun, pulled from production because of some defect Receiver drilled hole wrong place, etc , and put to service testing loads. 0
