MG 08 / 08-15
I am currently working on a MG 08/15 aircraft gun. I am cleaning and repairing the lock. My 3 questions are:
1) When I begin taking this lock apart, will there be any potential flying parts? Or will everything basically fall out? You are correct, nothing flew out everything was relatively easy to remove.
2) Anyone tell me the easiest way to re-assemble the lock, or point me to a link they have found helpful?
3) Where might I get replacement firing pins? I found a website that deals in parts. Took a few hours, but I got a firing pin on the way.

That link doesn't seem to work. I just entered MG 08/15 in my search engine & came up with many hits. They include a very interseting series of books by that name which I have read but I didn't know they had been made into movies.0 -
They are like working on a Chinese puzzle. Everything must be assembled in the correct order. If it is disassembled in correct order, nothing will fly apart. You may want to take some notes as your disassemble it. I have never found firing pins for sale. You may have to buy a complete working lock to get a pin. 0 -

Yep! I have now taken 2 apart, reassembled them and re re dis-assembled them again. It's really not a big deal, the trick is really simple. You have to put it back together with the spring under tension.
I did find a firing pin and have now taken 5 of the ever growing 30 of them apart. Next step is finding a cnc machinist to turn us 50 firing pins.
Anyone have any leads on belts, loaders, ammo, firing pins, or pretty much anything else needed to get up and running?
rufe snow: I think only the gun had to be registered. I am pretty sure the accessories were exempt.0 -

Unless they were registered prior to or during the 11/68 amnesty. Getting them up and running might create problems with the federallies.0 -
Had one back in the '70's, and was amazed at the workmanship, machining, and heat treating.
A work of art.
BTW, the breech block was made by Mercedes - Benz!0
