270 decidel sound level
Any idea how loud a 270 or 223 is? I would like to buy a decidel sound meter any sugestons.

.223 is about 155 decibels, give or take a bit.
Absolute sound pressure is going to depend on where the measuring device is with respect to the rifle, exact load and barrel length, and a few other minor factors.

The term is decibel. A standard sound level meter does not truly measure impact noise, such as gunfire. 0 -

Bigger caliber or even more poweful round DOES NOT necessarily mean louder.
The factors going into barrel crack are much more complicated than that, and have to do in part with rate of volume displacement at the muzzle (ie a combination of caliber and velocity).
For example, 9mm luger is actually quite a bit louder than 45ACP, even though the .45ACP is larger caliber, offers more momentum (ie "power factor") and has similar kinetic energy.
FASTER rounds are generally louder.
Also, as a secondary point, the decibel loudness system is logarithmic, so SMALL differences in decibel numbers represent LARGE differences in absolute sound pressure.0
