Has Winchester ever used the same serial number for different models? I was about to purchase a 94 Win, but had the local sheriffs dept run the numbers, the serial number in their computer is stolen, but it is a different model number and description.

If the Model is not the same, than its not the same gun. Don't need to be a detective to figure that out. Of course they used the same numbers on different models.

Sure they have. Show them the Winchester section in the "Serialization" appendix. This is in the reference section, in the back of the Blue Book. It shows that Winchester numbered their various models in separate serial number ranges starting with #1.

WOW who is this SHERIFFS DEPUTY [?][?] BARNEY FIFE he must have just fallen off the turnip truck. German LUGERS even use what some people think is the same serial number over and over. The numbers can be 1-9999 then they started over with a letter BELOW the numbers . You could have a 1936 model exactly like a 1937 model with the same 4 digits and the same letter code.
