Winchester 06 Special Order Features??!!
Just acquired it, it is about 95% original condition. Original blue and gumwood stock varnish. Has sporting rear sight, M-62 style front sight, plain pump handle and no tang marking ever! Has anyone seen these features before

what is serial number and how is the caliber marking single, short long or long rifle or just a short?
Your price might want to be upped a bit if you do not want to sell it. Not many out there in that condition and as the dollar is loosing value physical assets are not bad to have on hand.0 -

WOW that is one nice looking Rifle. From what I can see the picture quality is very good . Your starting price is at a level that I would have to look at the rifle in person BUT other then one or two screw heads it looks very good to me. I also looked at some of your other items. They all seem to be better by far then the run of the mill gun show condition. I sort of collect Colts but maybe I should branch out .You dont have any NAVY MARKED coll 1911's do you[?][?] 0 -
Thank you for your kind words. I really don't want to sell it so I priced it to the moon! I really would like to compare notes with others who have "clean up era" guns like this one. I think this gun was assembled using a left over or rejected receiver (no tang marking, why set up the roll stamp machine for one gun?), then got sights from the 62A's currently then in production in the late 40's. The smooth forearm must have come from the parts bin? This gun is not refinished! I have and extensive reference collection, and have examined tens of thousands of Winchester's since 1961. But the proof marks over the blue prove it far beyond my words. 0 -
Per the Polishing Room records, the receiver frame on your parts clean-up Model 06 rifle was serialized in November of 1940. At that time, Winchester was using Model 90 receivers. The unmarked upper tang is a bit odd, but not completely unexpected.

Really nice rifle there, CGS10! I seriously doubt that you will find anyone who has a rifle like yours, and certainly not one in such great condition. It has the Model 62 receiver, and the upper tang with two screw holes is typical for the early production. A model 90 receiver would have an upper tang marking. Like you, I'd hate to part with it were it mine too. I'd think you have it priced right as well. 0 -

I have a model 90. Serial #852600. Round barrel, 30 series rear sight. Typical '90 wood & buttplate. It's a WRF, and so stamped on the face of the receiver. No tang stamping. These cleanup rifles turn up with just about any 90 - 06 - 62 parts you can picture being in inventory in the '30's & '40's. My '90 has a grooved hammer. I've seen all 3 models with serial numbers in the 852 - 854 range. Incidentally, round barrel '90's, 06's, and 62's have the same barrel taper rate per inch, and the same breech diameter. A 23" '90 or 62 barrel could be cut to make a 20" '06 barrel. I suspect all of these round barrels started life in the same pile, and were later stamped / cut for demand. I noticed your crowned & blued muzzle. Definitely a late barrel.
