BERT H TOLD US A FIB
Early this morning I read a post with pictures attached that made this old man's heart pound. Bert don't you know it is not nice to cause trama to us[?] I am a very vindictive person I dont know how but I will get even[}:)][;)]. However it does make me feel better knowing you had to work to get that COLT. I spent over 30 years talking a good friend out of a MINT mauser banner LUGER and over 40 years talking another friend out of a S&W No.3 single action target. Best wishes Karl. just watch out you will never know when PERRY SHOOTER might strike.

EDIT II Hello Bert. Your pistol was shipped on AUG 8th 1913 it was in one of two shipments that day each shipment was 250 pistols from Colt to BROOKLYN Navel Yard. your pistol was inspected by Major Walter G Penfield he worked as an inspector from Jan. 1911 until Sept 1914 he later went to work for Remington UMC. The barrel in your pistol is correct and the way yours is marked was only marked this way for serial numbers 25,000 -60,000 as a side note at one time there was a Walter H Penfield that was vice president of COLT Fire-Arm . I hope your colt letter will have more details but most times it will not as once shipped this was last entry.

It was worth it geting the rise out of several of you old geezers[}:)]. I am somewhat shocked that anyone fell for the old "flea-market" find gag[:D].
On a side note, I just got off the line with the Colt Historian (I just ordered a factory letter for it). I was told at least 100-days to get the letter in hand!0 -
It seems that Bert is finally recovering from bumping his head on bulkheads and the long-standing narcosis. Hopefully he'll recover sufficiently to liquidate all his "tomato stakes" and concentrate on real value like Colts and Elsies ! 0 -

Reminds me from when I was 17 and found an all original 1874 38-40
(38WCF) Winchester (90%+) while I was cleaning out the attic for extra money, an old widow woman whos yard I kept up. She said it was her Grandfathers, then he gave it to her husband, and since I had helped her so much and I liked guns the way I did, she'd just give it to me. Still one of my favorite safe queens, even if its not a Colt.[:D]

REALLY nice, and I know the feeling of chasing one for awhile...spent 4 years trying to buy a pristine 1971 Combat Commander from a friend of mines Dad...original owner.
Im not sure the chase was fun at all, worth it but tiresome...he wasnt holding out for more money, he just didnt want to "mess with looking for it in his safe" [:0][:D]
He'd bought it NIB, went home, filled the mag and fired the mag full, cleaned it and stuck it in his safe, never shot it again...[;)]0
