Good Scope
Was wandering which scope to buy for 300 yard target shooting. As most of the people on here say what brand and size of good glass to get for the 308 rifle I have. will hopefully be shooting match's with it. Hopefully something that will not break the bank. Thanks for any and all help that I get

What matches do you intend to shoot and what are the rules?
300 yards is just a distance. Scopes and rifles are not made specifically for this distance unless you are asking about point blank benchrest as managed by the NBRSA for 100, 200 and 300 yard targets. Those folks thrive on one and only one cartridge, the 6PPC.
Fill us in on the specific so we can make viable suggestions.

I'll throw one out for you.
Leupold, Burris variable power scopes in the 6or8-12to16 power range. I always use 40mm-50mm lens.
I usually spend $175-$300 on scopes for a centerfire rifle. My last scope was a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20X 50mm for a 7mm Rem Mag. I also bought the same scope for a .17HMR(little bit over kill) I think it ran me $165 for the rings, scope, & sun shade.0 -
+1 on the Leupold and Burris, however Redfield isn't a bad choice either. They are owned by Leupold now. They're Revolution line of scopes isn't a bad choice. They are reasonably priced, made in U.S.A. lifetime warranty, with Leupold's glass. I just installed one on my 1904 Mauser converted to 270. Best 0 -
i use Leupold scopes exclusively. Have Vari-X IIIs on my .243 and .223 Rugers and 6 to 12 on my .308.
Only scopes I trust. Worth every penny and have brought home the goods every time. They have never failed me.0 -
As Nononsense stated, it all depends on the rules of the matches you are going to be shooting. If you are going to be shooting a lot, stay away from the low end like Simmons, Tasco, and Bushnell scopes. You will get eye strain like you wouldn't believe. It all depends on your budget.
Burris is actually better than Leupold in most aspects, especially quality for the dollar spent. You actually get 35-50% more scope with Burris. Nikon has good glass, but is not spectacular, and their warranty procedure SUCKS, and I have had a couple go south on me.
If you want to spend a little more, the Sightron SIII, Meopeta, Vortex Viper PST, and even higher up with NightForce, US Optics, S&B...the sky is the limit.

That is not an opinion, it is FACT. You do get more out of your hard earned George Washington's with the Burris, than you do with Leupold. For years, Leupold has ridden around on it's name, and untill fairly recently, done nothing for innovation. I invite you to pair the Leupold VXII against the Burris FullField II, the Leupold VXIII against the Burris Signature, then tell me your decision, after actually purchasing them, and using them.

I totally agree, and now there is another fierce competitor, called Vortex. I put their Viper PST on my GAP-10, and am favorably impressed to say the least.0 -

Not lately. In the upper tiers of each's line Burris provides a better scope by a ways. In fact Leupold got in trouble for too much of their scope being built out of country for them to be putting "Made in the USA" labels on their scopes. As far as quality in the past, yes, Leupold was pretty much a premium scope. But that technology they used back then doesn't even compare to the general technology of today. The glass is outstanding for it's day, but due to cheaper coatings cheap, not very well built scopes, have as good of glass today as the older Leupolds. The difference is the older Leupolds were a LOT more durable.
One thing I will tell you is once you go to a higher optic like NF or USO, ...it's like looking through a screen door when you go back down....[}:)][:D]

At a great price and a Very Great scope.... The Bushnell Elite. I have a couple of them... Their great!!! I like my 4x16x50 for 300 yds. The RainGuard is amazing, I wish my NightForce had that feature. Field and Stream did a scope shootout a couple years ago and the bushnell won 0
