Mossberg 590 part question

Someone who has a Mossberg 590 please take off the magazine cap and check to see if there are any small parts between the magazine cap and the magazine tube. I removed mine and noticed a small 2mm diameter hole near the edge of the magazine tube under where the end cap screws off. It looks like there should be some parts in the hole that maybe "click" into the serrations on the magazine cap when it is tightened back on. My guess is a small spring and retainer that fit the serrations on the magazine cap?

  Indeed, you are missing a detent ball or pin.

  It might depend on how old the gun is. I know Remington stopped using the ball in their mag caps a while ago.
