10/22 modifications?
Other than a recoil buffer and auto bolt release, what mods would you consider a must for a 10/22?
I'm not looking for tacticool, just practical stuff to improve performance.

My recomendations are to free float the barrel and get a decent trigger job. Best 0 -
+1 on a trigger job. Auto bolt release would be nice although I do not have one on my own 0 -
It's been so long since I was out and about. I think I'd like the bolt o remain open after the last shot.
I got the Yellow Jacket because they had a lifetime you break it we replace it policy. I had one that was cracking bad and another one just started to. So I contacted them and they said that was normal. I could've sworn they said they didn't break in their pitch. Just the same they sent me out new ones after I sent them the broken ones.
Not that I'll use them. After I locate the third one I think I'll give them away. I'd got me one with the steel with the rubber (or what ever gummy tube) instead of the rubber only. I saw that KIDD had their own steel with gummy tubing after I picked up a pair of no-name brand. I may still pick up the KIDD ones.0 -
If you freefloat the barrel, just remember that the reciever is alloy.
I just put a new .920" barrel on mine, was disappointed when I found out you can't freefloat it. Also got a new synthetic stock. What a difference in accuracy and feel.0 -

They usually shoot very well with a trigger job. I use the Volquartsen fast and easy. IF you have a fair amount of rounds through it #4 would be a Volquartsen extractor. Recoil buffers can cause reliability issues so if you have any after you put one in suspect #1 is that.0 -

It's better to bed the barrel and free float the reciever [;)]
Do a trigger job with a stop.
Sometimes a lap job on the bore helps.0 -

#1, indispensable mod (and I'd put it above auto bolt release or recoil buffer, or anything else): TRIGGER JOB.
Drop in trigger kit from Power Custom will give you a crisp 3lb trigger WITH overtravel adjustment. There probably are better drop in trigger kits (or whole units) out there, but this one is probably the best in terms of "bang for buck".
Recoil buffer is so cheap and easy, you might as well do it. It does noticeably reduce the impact and "chunking" on recoil.
Auto bolt release . . .again, might as well, but IMO not a huge deal either way.
Next biggest things would be a match barrel and a custom stock.
Again they're not the best ones on the market, but in terms of bang for the buck, the Green Mountain bull barrels are pretty good. With cheap target ammo, mine will put all shots into a quarter-sized group at 50 yards all day long. Never tried it with true "match" ammo, but I'm sure it could do better.0 -
