Using Briley sub gauge tubes in dirty barrels

I just got my first Briley tube set so I can shoot 20 ga target shells in my 12 ga Citori 525. I'm wondering - how important is it to have super clean barrels when I insert the tubes? Can I shoot 12 ga then switch to 20 ga without a major cleaning? Will it damage the barrels or tubes if I don't?

  The Briley instructions say "It is important to keep your shotgun barrels clean else excessive wear can occur."
  The installation video shows tubes being driven into clean and oiled barrels.

  Didn't your Tube set come with instructions? I'd contact the manufacture. I'm not sure how dirty you can get barrels today with new shot and plastic one piece wads, but in the old days with reclaimed shot and card wads they could get dirty fast. I think I clean it before incerting tubes. It may not shoot any better or cause less wear but but it sure shouldn't cause more.

  I assume you mean full length tubes, not chamber adapters.

  Yes full length tubes. Also to clarify, I did read Briley's care instructions where they recommend only putting the tubes into clean barrels. I guess what I meant to ask is - how clean is "clean"? Run a bore snake thorugh it twice clean or shiney like it was never fired clean or.....?

  This is really simple:
  
  Clean means clean.
  
  Any particles of carbon or powder left in the bore of your barrels will wind up scoring your barrels as you insert your new tubes. The frequency of inserting and removing the tubes will increase the amount of the scoring in the bore.
