Ruger .44 Carbine

Do to some bills from the wifes two major surgeries this last year I'm forced to sell a few of my toys.

The first one I have is a Ruger .44 Carbine I was looking for an approximate value for.

There are no major scrapes dings or marring.

The third pic shows that the bluing is in excellent shape.

The serial number of this gun is 102-xxxx

  Did Ruger ever make a .44 mag carbine with a detachable magazine like the 10/22?

  Gas operated... and manual says use jacketd bullets. I'd stick with that.

  My oops, manual says that jacketed bullets are preferred because the gas ports could clog up easier with lead bullets, not just stay away from them. It also says don't use meduim-power loadings, as the action might not cycle reliably.

  They are gas operated, and love near maximum/maximum charges of H110, behind a JACKETED bullet. Using those kind of charges and velocity with lead, even hardcast, and gas checked, will cause fits in the gas port.

  I thought I had read something about that years ago. A friend gave me a box of lead rounds awhile back, I'll save them for the Contender. Thanks.

  I had cycling problems with loads from Miwall. The brass looked new, so it didn't look like reloads. Shot like 44 Specials.
  
  Also, grouping were never very good, with any ammo. At 50 yards, the groups were about 2.5 to 3 inches, but got progressively worse as the barrel heated up. Strickly a 25 yard gun for pig hunting or very big vermin.

  Mine came with a receiver sight from the factory, [1972], it does pretty well. I loaded 240 grain Speers or Hornady bullets in Norma brass back then. It is a brush gun, good for here in WV.

  Are we talking about the original carbines, or the current model?
  (And does it make a difference relative to this question????)

  There is no difference. They are both Gas operated, and as far as I know, they have discontinued the Deerfield carbine, with the detatchable magazine.
