dueling pistols need help - pics
Hi, I have very little knowledge in dueling pistols / black powder firearms. Can somebody help me out with the following? These are the only pictures I have. I'm not sure who the make is, the only information I was given is that they are "the grandfather's fathers". I'm sure we have all heard that before. If anyone can help me out if they are original (or not) would be a great help. Value and/or maker would also help too! Thanks in advance.

We will need crystal clear pictures of the markings and any proof marks to even start trying to figure out the maker.
They are not Duelling pistols more like pocket pistols. Is there any sign of a front sight? If not the barrels may have been cut.0 -
Unfortunately I do not have them in my possesion. I rarely deal in these firearms. I am debating if they are worth going to take a look at before making the drive. I would like to have some knowledge what to look for to see if they are real or not if I attempt to purchase them. 0 -
They are not a matched set, as the locks, checkering patterns, and placement of barrel keys are different.
And there are rear sights but no front sights, so both barrels and forestocks have probably been shortened.0 -

Using the stare and compare method. These are not matched and were indeed modified. Save fuel and get more data. 0 -

Everyone... thanks for the responses. They have been of much help. I am trying to gather more information from the man, trying to see if he can provide any stampings / proof marks.

The gold inlay on the barrels, although not clearly visible gives them the appearance of being mid 19th Century Spanish, rather then the more valuable English or French manufactured pistols. This along with the many other negatives pointed out by the previous posters doesn't bode well for their resale value, i.e. unless they are being sold really cheap, don't waste your gas money and time tracking them down. With all their problems they wouldn't have any collecters value, rather wallhangers/conversation pieces for some guys mancave.0
