Big Clip for Rem 700
I have seen a product, I think named "EZ Clip" or some such, that converts a .30-06 length Rem 700 action from drop-floor or blind-floor to clip-fed. Think I saw it in a Cabela's shooting catalog. It consists of a new floorplate, and 5- and 10-round clips.
Here's my question. I have a Rem 700 Mountain Rifle that is clip fed, but in 7-08. Does anyone know of an aftermarket 10-round clip for .308 length 700 actions? Even if it means changing the floorplate. Would like to be able to turn my hunting gun into a tactical outfit, in case the zombies ever come down my street.
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks.

Convert it to use FAL mags ... 0 -
Here is a decent thread on the topic...

To alter a 700 to take FAL mags is going to take a very skilled gunsmith/machinist. Not likely to be a inexpensive job. Even if done correctly the 700 is going to look like caca after the work has been completed.
If you have anticipate a potential zombie infestation go with a AK, that what they were designed for. Likely it would cost you less then having 700 bubbaed, and you would always be able to get your money out of it, unlike that worked over 700.0 -
I have seen the MAGAZINE(not clip) conversion you are talking about. It is so-so, and of questionable quality. If you can find the proper bottom metal, Remington made a detatchable magazine themselves for a while. It would require a slight alteration of the stock, for the magazine release.
There are other's out there who offer TACTICAL conversions, with detatchable magazines, of various lengths, up to 338 Lapua. Badger Ordnance, if I am not mistaken is one of them, and H-S Precision is another. Yes, they are a little pricey, but they WORK. The product you have seen "EZ Clip", has not had a good following.

Thanks for the comments!
Check out Midway USA. They have several from the maker's I listed above, and they are just what you are looking for, possibly.0 -

I agree with this 100%.
Even if you don't care about getting your money out of the Rem700 later after this experimental dna-splicing abortion, the gun will (in my opinion) now be fairly worthless as anything approaching decent accuracy because of the large, awkward 10-round magazine hanging down off the thing. Even if you use a 5-round detachable magazine, my guess is that there will be more hanging under the weapon than if you stuck with the original.
The only thing I would like to see on a Rem700 (maybe someone makes something like this or the gun can be machined to accept them) is a guide for loading the gun with a stripper clip.
Ranting now......:
In my opinion, the best way to make a tactical rifle out of a Rem700 is to cut the barrel back to 18-20 inches, cut the stock down to the best possible length of pull for the user (to include the thickness of any the recoil pad), degloss the wood, matte finish and darken it, or install a black composite stock in place of the wood, matte-finish the metal. Leave the integral box magazine alone. Also, put a good, adjustable peep or open iron sight on the weapon and leave off the optics. Do not use a heavy barrel; keep it light. But, make sure you do all the accuracy modifications, such as floating the barrel, ensuring good muzzle finish, good sling swivels and sling, etc. In the end, this treatment may lessen the gun's resale value, but I am not a good judge of that. Resale value is not why you are doing the work anyway. (Does any of this remind you of something?)
But, tactical-schmactical...that stuff ain't all its cracked up to be anyway. If you want a high-capacity fighting rifle, buy one for that purpose....it will turn out to be better and cheaper than jury-rigging your Rem700, something you do not want to do for reliability reasons, if nothing else. I again repeat my support of rufe-'s statement that an AK is more suitable for easily taking out "tactical", man-size targets from 100-150 yards and further. You can include the M-16/M-15 family of long guns into that category too, along with the variations of the SKS or the Ruger Min-14......any of those or something similar.
At least 95% of the people that own these weapons cannot perform to the level that the gun is capable of achieving anyway. As far as performance, I can pretty much do the same darn thing that those guns are capable of with my Uberti Winchester Model 1873 reproduction lever gun in .357/.38Special and, I can get ten rounds out of the thing with close-range (out to 100 yards) accuracy faster and more accurately than those 95%'ers I mentioned. Spraying ammo as fast as you can pull the trigger ain't gonna get the job done.
Oh yeah.....speaking of "clips", your terminology is somewhat off. I know what you meant, so it is not a big deal because you already know the difference. However, a "clip" (either a "stripper clip" or a retained clip) is a convenient, disposable holder of ammo that enables the user to quickly/easily load a gun's box magazine. The loaded clip can either go into and be retained in the gun's box magazine with the ammo (i. e. the M1 battle rifle) or can slide into a guide machined into the weapon and the ammo pushed (or "stripped") into the integral box magazine, then the clip removed, saved or (usually, in military applications) discarded. For the most part, with a weapon with an integral box magazine, the user is usually able to load the weapon's box magazine to capacity without the clip. A "magazine" is a spring-loaded (usually), integral or detachable, self-contained, box-like device that is integral to the weapon or is inserted into the weapon and is (usually) not discarded, but generally always reused. The weapon self-loads from the detachable magazine the same way as with an integral magazine. It strips the top round off and into the chamber upon its return to the in-battery position. With a detachable magazine, the weapon has no integral box magazine and the weapon becomes a single-shot, with some difficulty, without the detachable magazine. Also, in many military applications, the detachable box magazine (usually with an adaptor) can be reloaded with a clip.0 -

I think the item you recall is "Kwik Clip" and it's sold on line, Cabelas has the. The 7-08 would be a short action, I think the cost is about $90.00. From what I've heard the work "just OK" whatever that means.

Brownells sells an extended (non-detach) floorplate, costs about $15.00, that will allow you to increase capacity by about 4 rounds.
There are alot of other better and more expensive detach magazine set ups available, I have a Remington MLR with the detach magazine and it works fine. Personally, I just don't see the quality present for comapnies to charge the $300.00 or so dollars being asked for the mag and bottom metal. Between the cheap "Kwick Clip" and the +$300.00 or so Badger and others a serviceable $150.00 or so would be something that interested me.0 -
IIRC Remington makes a ten rounder for their 700 rifles. I believe you have to get it through their military/law enforcement branch.
Here's a link to some of their military gear. The USR rifle has a detachable 10 rounder.

River Rat,
I would skip the Kwik-Clip if it was my decision to make.
"IIRC Remington makes a ten rounder for their 700 rifles. I believe you have to get it through their military/law enforcement branch."
First, Remington doesn't manufacture the magazines or the trigger guard/floor plate which is part of the military/LEO magazine system. They are made by Badger Ordnance for Remington.
Second, there isn't another magazine available for your civilian Remington version of a detachable box magazine which WAS designed by Remington to hold 4 cartridges, I believe. This model has a release button on each side of the magazine which requires an inlet on each side of the stock.
If you want a higher capacity magazine, you'll need to purchase an aftermarket design by one of the manufacturers already named. HS Precision and Wyatts have drop-in systems for the Remington footprint. Badger Ordnance, Surgeon and others require inletting by a skilled gunsmith. Note that I state 'skilled gunsmith' because I've had the task of trying to patch the tragedies created by some folks who wield a Dremel tool without skill or precision.
You might check (call, ask for Dave Kiff) with Pacific Tool and Gauge. They might have the bottom metal at a decent price then just buy magazines to fit.
