Enfield/45acp conversion
I recently picked up a kit to convert a 303 Enfield to 45acp. The kit includes a new barrel and a magazine that will accept a 45 magazine. There is very little else that needs to be done according to the instructions except to modify the extractor.
Has anyone ever completed such a conversion? It does not make too much sense to me but maybe someone will explain why they think its a good thing or a stupid thing!
Thanks for any help!
Got the kit in a pile of stuff.

If the tube is bad on the 303 go for it. Converting rifles to pistol shells never made much sense to me, on the other hand I do like the reverse. More likely to find 45 ACP ammo and at a better price than the 303, but for catching dinner the Brit. would be a better choice. 0 -
Unless you intended to make a replica Delisle Carbine, (Suppressed .45 ACP carbine that the Brits used during W W II)? It doesn't appear to be either practical or worthwhile to me.
Long as you don't have a lot in it on the other hand, what do you have to loose? A reenactor or some guy wanting a neat wallhanger/conversation piece would probably be happy to get their hands on it.0 -
Sounds like and interesting project! Where did you get the conversion kit? 0 -
rufe makes a good point about the delisle. replica's are being made by an outfit in the states and one in the UK. both are special order only and take 3-6 months to get. figure on $3000 for a replica with a functional suppressor. legend has it that the action of the bolt was louder than the fired round!
you can also make a replica with a non functional suppressor.
.303 milsurp ammo is all but extinct, but prvi makes a decent soft nosed .303 thats reloadable.
I'm one of the folks that always wanted to convert my No4![:p]

I bought the kit at a garage sale and I doubt that I will ever use it. Thanks for all the comments and I agree with all of you. Ill be putting it on GB auction in the near future. 0 -
Those of us with buckets of 45acp brass and too much time on our hands, will bid on your kit. 0 -
please post a link to the auction!
