Colt Mustang question

Wisc will soon have CC. Considering the small Colt Mustang in .380 and am wondering if some of the hotter loads (Fed. 90 gr. Hydra-Shok or Cor-Bon 90 gr. both JHP) can be used without damaging the firearm?

  Read "box o truth" I believe the results say use FMJs because HPs don't have enough penetration to get the job done. But read it for yourself as things always change. You must check out what anyone says because a .380 is as small as one should go. And practice and practice, etc.

  I like the Colt Mustang with the standard length grip and with a steel frame.
  
  You won't damage the steel-framed Mustang with any commercial cartridge you buy. You probably should fire 200-300 rounds through the gun to familiarize yourself with it. After that, probably not so much unless you practice with it all the time. So, the gun is going to stay in good shape if you maintain it properly.
  
  Anyway I like the Federal HydraShok cartridge as they cycle reliably every time in my Mustang. However, these days I believe that the heaviest full metal jacketed round you can buy will be the best to use for self protection. I personally am not going to worry too much about over-penetration if I get into a shooting war, all pc bs aside. Although, out here in California, where we don't wear as many clothes as they do back east, I suppose the Federal HydraShok is a good choice as well.
  
  Oh yeah.....I suggest you carry nickel-plated brass ammo in the gun's magazines. Nickel-plated FMJ ammo may not be easy to find. But, CCW makes for a corrosive environment, hence my recommendation. Practice with the cheaper brass-brass stuff. Colt-stamped factory magazines are available from Midway and other suppliers. Also, don't get too excited about the plastic guide rod and trigger, but if it bothers you, get stainless steel replacements from Brownells.
  
  A good substitute for the Mustang is its slightly larger cousin, the Colt Government Model .380acp.

  buffalo bore makes a .380 +p in jhp,fmj and flat nose. the flat nose wouldn't feed in my mustang, but the other 2 were fine. i've also used them in my sig238 without issue.
  another option is hornady CD which both guns fire w/o issue.
