Lead Shot

Found some lead that was melted down from recovered shot at shooting matches back in the 70's. Is shot pure lead or is it an alloy? Thanks.

Most likely has some antimony added. Premium shot had about 6 percent antimony added. Other shot had less. But was not pure lead.

If you cam cut into a block with your thumb nail it will work for muzzle loaders round balls, if not it will likely still be to soft to use as is for modern guns with more tin and antimony added.

Just wondered if it was too hard for muzzleloader, or too soft for modern guns like charliemeyer007 said.

If you want to use it for minie balls, then the softer the better, so that the skirt can expand and engage the rifling. If you are planning to use it for a cloth patched projectile, then pretty much any mix will do since it is the cloth patch that is engaging the rifling, not the lead. [:)]
