9mm Steyr Colt?
I just picked up a couple of NIB Genuine Colt 1911's series 70. They are chambered in 9mm steyr. Anybody know anything about these? Any real value to them?

what is the serial prefix or suffix? made for export for europe contract only,, some have come home,, any import marks? i would value at least 1000.00 each to start if truely NIB with all papers ect 0 -
If the barrels are original Colt manufactured and you could get a Colt letter stating that they were shipped that way from the factory, I believe it would increase their collector value.
Since the 9mm Steyr cartridge is dimensionally similar to the .38 Super except for the rim, it would be just a matter of swapping barrels for the 9mm Steyr to be fired in any .38 Super Colt. I believe that the 9mm Steyr would function OK in unaltered .38 Super mags.0 -
Yes these are 100% Colt, New In Box with all Colt papers. I will try to find 38 super barrels for them. Thanks for the info! BTW no import marks anywhere, 0 -

If there NIB, I wouldn't be shooting them till you got them lettered from Colt. If they were made specifically in 9mm Steyr and this is noted in the Colt letters, likely they would have substantial value to Colt collectors. Specially if most were exported to Europe.0 -
they were made for export but i recall that some were sold here due to the contract cancelation nice find don't be switching barrels i have never seen one but is the caliber anywere on the slide or barrel? they were offered some time in the late 80's thru one of the distributors what is the serial number prefix or suffix helps to date 0 -
The magazine baseplate should be marked 9mm Steyr, as well.. I believe they were offered Stateside as overruns on an overseas order.. Italy, I think, since they can't sell military calibers.. 0 -
As stated, the guns have too much collector value to shoot or modify. If truly New-In-Box, the box serial numbers will match the guns and the chambering will be noted on the end label. That should be enough proof to offer them for sale as genuine 9mm Steyr Colts.
If you want shooters, sell these guns and buy shooters with the profit.0 -
Yes the end labels are marked 9mm Steyr and are genuine Colt. All Colt, including papers/manauls/ etc. BTW SN's are only two numbers apart. Should they be sold as a set or individually? Guess I'll put them on GB and see what happens. Thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it. 0 -
