Least abrasive holster lining
What material or animal skin would be least wearing on blued guns.

Before I got into Kydex for the light weight and easy draw, I used Safariland holsters with suede lining. They were easy on my Gold Cup and mucho breathed upon Combat Commander. The Internet Experts will tell you the lining will "hold grit" and wear your finish, but if you brush it out occasionally, it won't. 0 -
Probably the least abrasive common holster material is suede leather.
I know true chamois leather-lined holsters do exist, but I don't know if any of the big makers still put them out, and if you really want one, you might have to have it custom made.
In terms of other products, many synthetic holsters are lined by simple soft nylon pack-cloth, and that's pretty benign on gun finishes.
Unfortunately, bluing just isn't all that durable of a finish, and I think no matter WHAT you use, if you're holstering a gun repeatedly, you're going to get some holster wear.0 -
Also, you need to remember that suede or (more likely) split leather masquerading as true suede, is going to grip the gun tightly, causing the entire holster to rise up with the gun on the draw unless something is gripping the holster or holding it in place.
I believe that a Kydex holster is more lkely to release the gun with a push of the thumb on the draw than a leather holster with a "suede" lining.
So, which one is less likely to cause wear? I agree that any holster will cause finish wear, especially on blued guns. However, I believe that concern about holster wear and carrying a weapon for defensive purposes are not compatible considerations.
If you have a true collector's item, don't carry it. Buy a good, used high quality weapon for concealed carry and keep the safe queens at home.0 -

I carry my valuable carry guns, in suede lined Safari-Land/Bianchi holster's. A lot of the custom makers will not line one for you...so I have found out. I agree that if you clean your holster every now and again, it will not wear on your finnish as much.

I have some used horsehide from disassembled carrying cases.
The outer surface is beautifully smooth but the inside not so hot.
It was a thought to get some patterns and give it a go with smooth side in.
A plug bottom would seem to be less wearing to barrel sides but hard
to do.

Kidskin or doeskin is the softest lining there is for a holster. It's worth it IMO to get a lined holster. 0 -
No lining. I have had a number of lined holsters from Safariland and other makers. The so-called "suede" lining is grippy, and after a while, will separate from the outside layer of the holster. The lining can also pick up grit and hold it, and seriously exacerbate holster wear.
BTW, Safariland once made all their products of leather. Not so anymore, which is why I don't buy Safariland products.
A leather holster with the finished side on the outside, will have the softer flesh side on the inside, and it is plenty good enough, but there is no way to fully prevent holster wear on a carry gun.
The best way to prevent holster wear is to select a holster that fits the gun well.
Also, never store a gun in the holster. Holsters are for carrying not for storage.
I am old and set in my ways, and I can't warm up to a plastic holster, any more than I can warm up to a plastic pistol. All my holsters are leather, except for the nylon Uncle Mike's body armor holster I wear under my shirt. I couldn't find an equivalent holster made from leather, so I had to make an exception.0
