Can't ship gun
I sold a 20 gauge mossberg bolt shotgun and UPS, Fed-ex, and USPS shipping dept. Said I have to be a FFL to ship the gun... Eventhough my wife said when she talked to them on the phone they said come to the Fed-ex at the airport. I went there also and was turned away. I have sold one other gun on gunbroker and shipped it no problem bout 6 months ago.... They said I slipped through the cracks and without being a FFL it should not have gone out. This really Sucks cause I figured $25 would cover the shipping, but now I'll probably have to go thru a local shop and lose money...any ideas?

1. Print THERE regulations out from the sticky above and take them with you. Ask to see a manager.
2. Or sign up for an account with UPS or Fedex. Then pay for and print a label online,and schedule a pickup from your door.
Handguns most be taken to one of there depots still.0 -
take it to post office & mail it. you dont have to tell them its a gun. you must mail to a ffl though. 0 -
When it comes to an individual who wishes to ship a long gun firearm, The USPS troops generally do not know the regulations. You must cut through the BS by speaking directly to the US Postmaster at the post office (either the main po or your neighborhood satellite po) that you generally use. If you get the same story from the Postmaster, ask him/her to go get the regulations and read it to you. As previously stated, the weapon must be shipped to a current Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder.
You do not have to go to the main post office to ship a long gun. The small, neighborhood satellite post offices must perform to the same standard as the main post office and accept your long gun shipment.
A person who does not possess a FFL may not ship a handgun via the US Mail, but a FFL holder is authorized to ship this way to a current FFL holder.
Shipping a long gun via the Post Office (USPS) is considerably less expensive than shipping it via Federal Express (FedEx) or United Parcel Service (UPS), so don't let the troops at the post office mislead you by telling you that you must possess a FFL to ship via USPS.0 -

Both UPS & Fedex have recently changed the firearms section in their tariffs.
UPS no longer accepts shipments from individuals, even where legal, unless the recipient has a contract with them.
Fedex now permits an individual to ship from any Fedex Office store (formerly Kinko's), as well as from their hubs. It is highly recommended that you show "firearm" on the shipping document so that it appears on your copy.
All of the above are good reasons why USPS is best for long guns, as you do not need to declare the contents of the package, just answer honestly the "4 questions".

Just bring in a WELL and properly wrapped cardboard box. Consider investing in a cheap plastic case from Wally World to hold the gun inside the box. Sometimes the handlers can be brutal and that cheap case will protect the gun. They will weigh it, measure it and quote you a price based on destination. No further conversation is required. It's none of their business what is inside as long as it is not a hazardous item, as listed in the basic questions. As long as it is a long gun and not a hand gun, you are legal.0 -
Just went to the UPS website, looked up their tarriffs on firearms- no change that I could see. Here is what is says as of 2 minutes ago:
Getting Your Firearm Shipment to UPS
Firearms (including handguns) may be shipped only through a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account (specifically, Daily Pickup, Daily On-Route Pickup, UPS Smart Pickupr, and Day-Specific Pickup), or through a UPS Customer Center (counters at UPS operational facilities). Note: Firearms (including handguns) are not accepted for shipment via, UPS Drop Boxes, UPS On-Call PickupSM, or at locations of The UPS Storer or any third party retailer.
When you are shipping a package that contains a handgun, you must verbally notify the UPS driver or UPS Customer Center clerk.
See the terms and conditions in the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service for information regarding firearm shipments.
Please note that the storefront "UPS Store" kind of places are franchises, and not a UPS Customer Center (also called a hub)0 -
