AR15 A1 shell deflector

Recently aquired an A1 receiver which I've built into an XM177 type carbine.

Being a lefty, I knew I might have trouble with brass hitting me, but this thing is a face-shredder.

Anyone know of an add-on brass deflector that would look correct on a '70s style CAR ?

I've changed buffer springs and extractors and she still smacks me, otherwise, the gun works just fine.

  Changing the buffer springs will not do anything. Changing the buffer weight will. What weight you need??? You can start with a carbine, then H carbine, H2, and H3 and see which one will throw the brass at a 2 oclock area. This should make it less likely to get nailed.
  
  You can also try a brass catcher, search brass catcher at midway.

  Got a carbine buffer, cosidered H buffer, but thought a heavier spring would do the same thing. [I'm a tightwad, springs are cheap.]
  
  I'll try a heavy buffer. I'd like to keep the retro look of the carbine without bleeding all over it.

  I don't think you ever get rid of the problem. You could always try an O ring on your ejector too. If you send me your address I think I have one I could send you you.

  Go to www.crankyfarmer.com/netgunparts.html and scroll down to sight tools/deflectors.
  I have one of the AR shell deflectors listed there. They just snap in the carry handle.
  One will cure your problem for $8.

  Don't depart from the spring-rate/buffer inertia (weight) that the XM177E1 was designed to use.
  
  You are trying to replicate a Vietnam era XM, correct?

  Does this deflector screw up the brass at all? I hate chasing brass everywhere, and the two different kinds of shell catchers I have make my gun jam every now and then.quote:Originally posted by dcs shooters

  I have a GAU (that's what we called the XM177 in the Air Force when I was in) and I've created the same and am left handed. I've never had an issue with brass but have seen this one used and it dumps brass about 2 O'clock pretty consistently.

  Do a search for USGI M16 shell deflector. You see them selling pretty cheap.
  
  One of these late 60's era snap on pieces would look right at home on an XM177 type.
