I have a remington model 572 fieldmaster with a push button safety. The button doesn't push flush like on my 870. Is that the way its works? The gun does go from safe to fire.

  It should push flush like your 870. Take it to a good gunsmith, and it should take him about 5 minutes to fix it up for you.
