Lots and lots of close up pics, esp any markings.

Due to the backstrap/frontstrap wear, pistol below rates at about 75-80pct. If the grip areas were the same as the rest of the gun, it would rate at 95pct. Use this as a guide in rating your Luger.
Sellers are asking $1200 or higher, but the auctions are stalled at about $750-$850, so you won't be getting much more for your Luger.
    EDIT
OyVey! I didn't read your post through! Since you don't wish to sell, then list them at about $1150 for records/insurance replacement value. Best, Joe

I have lost track of value but have recently acquired a 95% WW2 Nazi marked, correct, german Luger with original holster. the owner has had it the last 30 years, and it is super nice. It is 1937 dated and is S42/ Mauser production. Any ballpark thoughts?

Also got a 95% P38 with original holster, correct with 4 original mags. WW2 Nazi marked. Thoughts on ballpark value?

I'll probably keep them, but want an idea how to put them in my records. Thanks.

I have a S/42 Luger much like yours and I have it listed for insurance at $1200. Can't tell about your P38....maker? date? holster maker? condition? Ballpark? $500+++++/holster $100++++++++ Need photos for clearer eval.[:D]

Thanks, I think I have a good idea now. Your 1937 dated gun looks like mine, but I have say that mine has probably 10% more blue and less high edge wear. But at least now I have an idea, as I am not going to sell the Luger. Thank you for the help.

p-38s have moved up in the world and a good unmessed with from 40 to 45 can be well above $1000 but it cant have importing marks. Ironically some of the "grey ghosts" from 1945 with no finish and tool marks are as valuable as pre 41 russian invasion that are perfectly finished . Try p-38forum.com also decent holsters from the war will easily bring plus $200
