    the pre 64 guns have a collar which is wider and the stocks are inletted for it. there is a dovetail on the top for the front sight

    I edited the post to include "pre 64" when referring to other LA stocks.

    Morning Wittum.. There's no Long Action/Short Action when referring to pre-64's.... The actions are all the same length, from .22 Hornet to .458 Win.. The magazine boxes/spacer's were different for the calibers, but the stock inletting was the same.. The barrel channel would also be different, according to the bbl style..

    To Wittum, I have 2 winchester late pre 64 stocks, one a featherweight which has a 3-5/8" mag cutout(30-06)plastic buttplate, and a standard barrel raised comb that has a 3-13/16" cutout and a win recoil pad I believe is for the 300 H&H mag
