mosin nagant scope mount
i have a 1930 tula hex mosin and want to mount a scope. i heard you can take of iron site and mount rings for scope, is this possible. i have a bushnell 22lr 4x laying around and would be cool to use.any help would be nice

I just finished sporterizing an m44.bent bolt,barrel cut to 16.5 inches,synthetic stock.Can anyone enlighten me on a good scope mount for this rig? I'm told the b-square setup is fragile,but how about the russian mount? It looks ridiculously high ... 0 -

S & K from PE is one of the main makers of Scout Scope mounts. I recently mounted one on a real nice 97 Swede, that I didn't want to D & T. The mount went right in, when I removed the Tangent rear sight. Appears to be good quality solid mount, not cheap though. 0 -
This topic comes up a lot.
First of all, your Bushnell .22 rimfire scope is really not suitable for use on a Mosin Nagant rifle.
The Mosin rifle has **WAY** more recoil than any .22, and a low-end Bushnell .22 scope probably isn't strong enough to handle it.
More important, a conventional scope like a Bushnell .22 will not give you enough eye relief to mount in a forward position where the MN rear sight assembly goes. If you mount an ordinary scope over the rear sight, it will simply be too far away from your eye to be able to see anything through it.
To mount a scope FORWARD of the action, in the rear sight area, you need to use a special long eye relief scope. You can use either a *PISTOL* scope, or a specially designed long eye relief rifle scope (sometimes called a "scout") scope.
Here's my Russian M44 carbine with S&K scout scope mount replacing the rear sight assembly, and a 2x Leupold pistol scope:
S&K scope mount is expensive (just under $80, if I remember right) but its absolutely rock solid and probably the best commercially available mount of this type on the market. You just take off the rear sight assembly (relatively easy with a screwdriver) than drop in the SK mount. Make sure you use loctite on the mount screws to keep the screws from vibrating loose under the pounding Mosin recoil.
You can buy a cheap generic aluminum Mosin scope mount for about $15-20 that does the same thing, but I don't think its going to be quite as solid or durable as the S&K one (which is like a rock). Again, make sure you loctite down the scope screws when mounting, otherwise you're likely in for a very disappointing range session when your scope a. works loose and won't hold a zero, and b. flies like a thrown rock off your rifle when shooting!0 -
You say a hex receiver Mosin, FYI, the 91/30 and Finn M39 take a different mount, because they use different rear sights. 0 -
91/30 hex I just need to tell my buddy which mount I need I font go shooting slot so I don't need top of line mount. But what is my rifles mount specs. I'm new to the Mosin. Is it 3/8 0 -

I don't quite get the question.
If you want to go with the forward/scout scope mounting, which is the easiest and cheapest way to go with a Mosin rifle, then you just need a mount to fit on the rear sight of a 91/30 rifle.
The different brand mounts vary in terms of exactly how they attach to the rear sight, but they are specifically designed for the Mosin and pretty much all of them use a standard Weaver/Picatinny top rail to attach your scope rings.
The S&K mount that I bought (see above) happens to use its own rings and proprietary mount. I bought that one figuring it would be simpler and its been fine, but if I had to do it again, I'd buy the one with the standard mount so I could more easily drop any optic I wanted on there.
Now, I've heard that its possible to remove the rear sight, leaving just the rear sight base, and then attach an inexpensive 3/8" rimfire or airgun scope base directly to the rear sight base. Something like this:

Haven't tried this myself (yet), but I've heard it can work well, and I actually think its probably just as secure as the cheaper purpose-designed Mosin mounts.
Again, though, you will need a long eye relief scope to get this to work.0
