1895 30-40 shoots High
Finally took the 1895 in 30-40 out to play, and cannot lower the rear sight enough to get it within 12" at 100 yards.
It is repeatable and consistent, but a POI that is 12" above POA is a PITA.
Any thoughts?
EDIT:
Thank you, Hawk Curse:
It is an original, manufactured in 1901, and though there has been a hole drilled in the strap behind the receiver for (I assume) the addition of a tang sight, the remainder of the rifle appears to be correct. The front sight appears to be original, though I'll take a closer look, as it is possible someone lowered it to accommodate whatever sight was once installed on the strap. If get to it tonight, I'll post a photo of the front sight for confirmation.
EDIT 2:
Never thought of that, Bert. It may be a big part of, if not the answer - thank you.
IIRC, I was shooting 165 Grain jacketed soft points. I believe I have some 185s and 220s, and will give them a shot next weekend.

Taller front sight.
There is no magic involved, you just have to change it out.
Is this a repro you can mess with or an original you are reluctant to modify?0 -
Hello Don,
What weight bullet are you shooting? The factory sights and rifling twist rate were set up for the 220-grain round nosed bullet.0 -
Ditto.
Taller front sight.
Adjust for bullet and load you want to shoot.0
