need advice for buying a super black eagle 2
Going to buy my new gun in the box after 25 years of hunting. Guess it is time. I have always shot a 28 inch gun.....but I am a little unsure if I should buy a 26 inch SBE, or a 28 inch. 90% of the time I'll be shooting geese with this gun, and 9% ducks, and mostly if things go right 2 turkeys a year. So, any advice will be great 26' or 28"? Also is there a specific way to break in a new gun? Like, do I need to fire a few light loads through first/ or heavy loads first/ or does it matter. Thanks for the help...just want to start of right.

First off, hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com.
I really don't think 2 inches of barrel either way will make you a difference. I actually like the shorter barreled guns for hunting better. My go to hunting gun is a Remington 870 Express Turkey gun, with a 21 inch barrel. It is in 3 inch chambering, and I have killed turkey's out at 65 yards with it. The barrel length might make a difference for pass shooting, and you might need to get used to the slightly differentsight radius and swing needed to compensate for it, for successful pass shooting.
You have chosen a fine shotgun for hunting, and just a couple things to remember. Most guns, when they come from the factory are packaged for long term storage. You will need to degrease it, and properly lubricate it. Then it is ready to go, and there is no need to break in, like a good rifle, with a match grade barrel.
Other than that, have at it, and enjoy your new shotgun.

The only difference between the 26" and 28" barrel will probably be sight radius and follow through. The 28" barrel will probably help you follow through a little better than the 26", but not as significantly as a double barrel with the same difference. 0 -
If you are goose hunting out of a blind, the 26" is a bit handier. 0 -
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INFO, THAT'S WHY I JOINED UP HERE, I FIGURED IF ANYONE KNOWS GUNS, IT IS MY NEIGHBORS TO THE SOUTH...WELL MOSTLY TO THE SOUTH. I SHOOT OUT OF LAYOUT BLINDS, AND THE BIRDS ARE USUALLY 20 TO 30 YARDS AWAY(NOT ALL THE TIME), BUT WE TRY TO GET THEM IN CLOSE... SOMETIMES 15 YARDS...ANYWAYS, I HAVEN'T BOUGHT THE GUN YET, BUT HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK, I JUST HAVE ALWAYS SHOT A 28 INCH BARREL, AND A LITTLE SCARED TO GET A 26...FOR SOME STUPID REASON.IF YOU SAY IT WON'T MATTER MUCH...I'LL STICK TO A 28", AS WELL THANKS FOR THE DEGRESING TIP, I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT 0 -
I use the 26. i had been using a 28 in 3" 870. i've shot dove, quail ducks, geese, phesants, grouse, hogs, coyotes, clays, etc with the SBE, both close and far - hard to beat that 26 and a little easier to carry in the brush. great shooting gun. mine doesn't like 1 oz light loads too much.... 0 -
I have a 26" on my 3 1/2"semi auto. It's a little easier to swing around in the field or in a brush blind.
However, the 28" barrel I have on my 3" semi auto adds a small amount of sight plain for blasting doves,pheasants,quail and clay targets.
If I had a choice, (I) would use 28" or 30" because I gets most pf my shots in the open field. For your use you'll need to make your own conclusion on what suits you best.
I have a few Beretta shotguns, similar to Benelli, that don't explain anything in the owners manual about breaking it in. Best way would be to follow any instructions that Benelli gives in the new owners manual for the process. I doubt they have anything in there though.0 -
I have a left hand Benelli Super Black Eagle with 26" barrel. Its a great shooter and swings well when shooting dove and quail. I also use it in the winter for ducks with 3" or 3 1/2" shells. I prefer 26" as it gives a good mix of velocity, sighting and handling. 0
