Lyman Tang Sight-C-Pat Date? Fit:Colt Remington W?
I recently got a Old Winchester 92 that has a Lyman Tang Sight that appears to be a:
No. 1 Combination Tang Sight Second Variation. This sight has both the PAT DATE JAN 29, 79 and MAY 6, 84. It has a C stamped on the bottom of the base. Three Questions:
1. On some searches I have made, I find the first Pat Date listed an Jan 28 and mine shows Jan 29. Which is correct? (After Posting I read in Madis Winchester Book that the correct stamp date should be Jan 29 79. I do not know why some show 28?)
2. The C stamped indicates that, from my searches, this is possibly for a: Colt .22 caliber or Remington No. 6. The base is only 1 & 5/8 inches long and not correct for the Winchester 92. (I would like to get my hand on the guy that drilled the hole in the tang to put this one on!) (The bluing under the sight is 100% so it was possibly put on this rifle 100 years ago.) What does the C indicate this sight fits?
3. What is it worth and does anyone have an appropriate one for a Winchester 92 38 WCF 1900, such as an old D sight, that they would be willing to trade?

The No. 1 First variation is marked Jan 28, 1879, and it has a thick base with a knurled thumbscrew. The No. 1 Second Variation was marked Jan. 28, '79 and May 6, '84. The "C" marking is correct as you have it...for the Colt Lightning .22, and Remington Model 6. I have not kept up with the prices of these old tang sights, but you could search the completed auctions on GB, or wait until someone else responds to your question. 0
