remington 600 308
i know this rifle was only made for 300 or so lucky individuals.i thought they were all vent rib barrels. was this made in a non vent rib barrel allso ,if so is it as collectable?

Here is what I have found in the Bluebook. I believe that there were a few more than 300 of them made in 308. The Bluebook says that there were only 315 made in 223 Remington.

- .222 Rem., 6mm Rem., .243 Win., or .308 Win. cal., this variation was a promotional model, 18 1/2 in. barrel with no rib. 94,920 were mfg. 1971-79.

Just an FYI...
The only factory, production, bolt action centerfire rifle, that Remington ever made that was lighter, and as, or handier than the Model 600/660 rifles was the Model 7 FS. They catalogged it for 1987-1989, but due to some problems with the Brown Precision fiberglass/Kevlar stock, and recalls for it, they were only really made in 1987. It was spec'ed out ar 5 1/4 pounds out of the box. I have one in 308 Winchester, and removed the sights from the barrel, and added a 3-9 Leupold VX-II compact. With the rifle scope, Uncle mikes sling, and 5 rounds, it tips in at 6 lbs, 2 oz. They are more of a rarity than the 600/660's too.

Look on the side of the trigger for an "A" or a "*" (I don't remember) as that is a replacement of the defective safety one. Other than that thay are nice short rifles. 0 -
If there is not a letter stamp of the edge of the trigeer, call Remington. Just got my 600 (also in .308) back from them. Under some circumstances, the 600 WOULD fire when safety was released. 0 -
The 600's go for a ton of money here in the North East. We can get anywhere from $500-700 in decent shape. Plenty of .308's were made. 0
