Old Pyrodex

Opened a storage container that had a can of Pyrodex from the 1970's in it and it smelled really sweet, has it gone bad? Thanks.

  its probaly only good as "bomb" powder. meaning its hard to say what it would do.

  I have heard lots of bad things about old Pyrodex but never had a problem with it. Got some old cardboard cans of it that were open for god nows how long. Shoots fine. May or may not be up to max velocity but I use it for plinking and casual target practice and it works fine.

  sprinkle it on your next fireplace logs and put the flame to it, old powder makes good fireplace starters, it NEVER explodes, just burns hot !!

  Since PYRODEX is a BLACK powder equivelant, please totally ignore the above post. Black powder is explosive, and so is PYRODEX. Even some smokless powders with fast burn rates can be explosive.
  
  If it were legal, about 2 foot of cannon fuse, 4 ounces of lead weight, and some duct tape would transform that into an excellent fishing lure.[:D][:D][:D]
  
  Sprinkle it on your lawn and be done with it.

  Agree- ignore the burning advice. Black powder (and subsititutes) are a DEFLAGRATNG explosive, unlike smokeless.
