Winchester Fixed Base Front Sights
I am restoring an 1886 Winchester to the saddle ring carbine version and I have a question regarding the fixed base front sights on carbine models.
How is the front base attached to the barrel? Is it milled into the barrel or is it a piece that is silver soldered on?

It is silver soldered to the barrel. It has a small pin on the bottom of the base, and a corresponding hole drilled in the barrel. 0 -
Thanks Bert! I found the dimensions in Arthur Pickles book and was thinking of making one, but I didn't know the bottom had a pin. Do you know of where I might be able to purchase one? 0 -
You are quite welcome. No, I do not know where or who you can get one from. 0 -
