9mm largo Vs 9mm Steyr
now what would be a reason i couldn't shoot 9mm steyr in my 9mm largo, i know fiochi and hornady make it.

When 9mm Largo ammunition was hard to find in quantity shooters regularly fired other cartridges such as the 9mm Luger, 9mm Steyr, 9mm Browning Long, etc in their 9mm Largo firearms. Many dealers and distributors also claimed the firearms would fire all of these and more. This however is not a prudent practice to engage in. The Star Modelos A and M, like all pistols firing straight walled cartridges, headspace on the mouth of the cartridge. When a cartridge shorter than the 23mm of the 9mm Largo is used, the cartridge case cannot headspace against the end of the chamber. This leaves only the extractor to hold the cartridge case against the breechface allowing the firing pin to impact the primer. This causes excessive wear and stress on the extractor, too much freebore (the distance from the bullet to the beginning of the rifling), and scoring of the chamber walls. The result of these abnormalities can result in broken/misshapen extractors, poor accuracy, and the inability to chamber and extract correct size cases. 0 -
the steyr is 23mm long as well. its near identical to the 9mm largo in dimensions 0 -
Astra made a pistol I am pretty sure it is a model 400 that had a free floating chamber that would supposedly chamber and fire 9mm largo/ 9mm steyr as well as 38 ACP with no issue. I tend to stick to whatever the gun was intended to fire. It was intended to fire 9mm largo so thats what i put through mine. 0 -
However, the 9mm Bergman or 38 acp should both be fine, as both are 23 mm long and of similar pressure. 0 -
Sorry, Jim, 9mm Steyr is on a 23mm case.
The 9x21 is a different round, made as a non-military alternative for Italian private owners.
As I recall it:
9mm Bergman Bayard - Largo = 9x23 tapered rimless
9mm Steyr = 9x23 straight rimless
.38 Auto = 9x23 straight semirim
A Spanish pistol marked 9mm/.38 is meant to handle either 9mm Largo or .38 Auto. Some Largos not marked for .38 will handle it but some have too narrow a breechface for its semirim.0 -
i called up federal today and am awaiting some info on there 38 super +P. acording to them it runs 1130 FPS with a 115gr bullet. i asked them what presure it runs at. becuse at that vel its sounds more like a 38 ACP more... but if the presure is over 29,000 PSI its a no go.
any one have any links or know of any manufactures that make 38 ACP?0
