Claer close up photos

Is there a certain type camera that is needed to take close up photos that are sharp and clear? Everytime I try to get detail up close(ie engraving, script on gun, marks and etc) the photo is blurred and unusable.

  You need to shoot with the camera mounted on a stand or tripod, also the camera should be able to be set on a macro focus mode for high quality, close-up shots.
  
  You might try "You Tube" for instructions on using the proper type of camera, and how to set it up.

  MACRO setting + natural lighting on Hazy days so no shadows.

  On some cameras (like the Canon A520 I bought [V]) the "macro" setting is a scam; even the factory tech support folks admitted to me that it doesn't really do anything.
  
  If you buy a camera small enough to fit in your shirt pocket, with a tiny plastic lens, odds are it won't be good enough for close-ups. You need a camera with a medium-to-large glass lens.

  Find a camera with manual controls, you'll see on top of the camera a dial with icons on it. there is auto, a head, runner, mountain, sun set, etc, each is for a special setting. move dial off auto to head (portraits) than you can use manual focus. the back of the camera has a 4 way button, a menu and function buttons. for example on a canon on portrait you would push the top 4 way button to cycle the flash off, than push the bottom 4 way to cycle to distance and it'll show on the bottom of the viewscreen. use the right/left buttons on the 4 way to move the distance close or far. use the viewscreen to see the focus on the object. since the flash is suppressed because it'll wash out the picture, push the function button and find the brightness controls with the 4 way buttons. lighten the picture to a higher number, than push function again to go back to the distance screen, refocus and take close up pictures. you'll see fuzzy pictures if you don't hold the camera steady. auto focus on close up probably won't work, always fuzzy so that's why you need to learn manual controls on your camera. don't buy a no-name camera as you won't get the controls you need.
