Information and opinion on HVA ACTION
Hello Guys I came across an HVA made in Sweden complete action while helping to settle another of my friends estate. This looks like a small ring 98 Mauser type except the ejector is at 7:00 O-clock not 9:00 O-clock Even has the same design as FN Browning Mauser cocking piece Has fully adjustable trigger with right side slide safety . the trigger assembly has Tradewinds No 1 H 1 u.s.a. does anyone have an opinion on quality of these receivers. It has standard 308 size bolt face Nitro proof serial #91467 is there Any way for me to tell if suitable for high pressure modern rounds as front ring is same size as rest of the action. Also any idea of what an unmolested one in the white would be worth. [?] Thanks Karl

HVA's were made in all usual calibers like .308, .30-06 and .270.
Is that suitable enough?
Frank DeHaas said they were kind of a Super '96 rather than a '98 deriviative but the upgraded design and good materials made them good sound actions.0 -
Tradewinds was a importer/distributor from WA State, that was in business from the 60's to the 80's. As I remember the stuff they handled was good quality, pretty pricy for that time frame.
Husqvarna was the manufacturer, your action probably dating to the late 60's early 70's, before S & W took over U.S. importation and distribution.
I imagine one of the original actions in the white would be worth a pretty penny to a gunsmith building big buck custom rifles.0 -

Not only are these actions suitable for modern ammunition, they have been the basis for a large number of expensive custom rifles also. The steel is typically the best that the Swedes can manufacture while the design is the modern 'improved' Mauser 98 very similar to the FN.
I suggest finding a talented custom gunsmith who knows his way around a Mauser and have him build a great rifle. Don't let some cobbler get a hold of this...

Thanks Nononsense and others. Looking at what I had it looked like a well built Item. Only thing that was needed was opinion from people I could trust to know. I think I will have a rifle built to Honor my Friend. He was my mentor in getting me started in reloading 40 years ago. 0 -
