10x unertl
I have a 1 1/4 10 power unterl scope its around 24" long serial #555XX. Scope was bought about 20 or so years ago and was never mounted. I was unfortunate enough to have my house catch on fire but lucky not to lose all my things but now have some financial issues. I was wondering if I should try to sell this item now or hold onto it for a while. I havent bought or sold too much in the last year and was looking for a market update. Any info either on the value/market/or history would be appreciated.

The Unertl scopes have gone up in value in recent years. A search of completed auctions on Gunbroker or the other internet auctions should give some solid information of what they have sold for. The ones with the larger objective lens, e.g., 1 1/2" or 2", and in 20X or more will bring more money. Considering yours has never been mounted I would expect it to bring $600+. 0 -

Unfortunately, the high flying prices for pretty much all Unertls has gone by the wayside. The only ones now bringing the big bucks are the ex-military ones. Or, more recent current military copies made by Unertl, like the MST-100. Or the MST-100's refurbed by USO. Which, I believe, is the original 'mil-dot' military rifle scope. Don't quote me on that. It may just be the first one everyone remembers.
Anyhow, I just bought a 10x Vulture a few months ago for around $200. That was shipped and insured to me. So, honestly, I would hang onto it if I were you. They may become collectors hot items to find someday again, but not in the near future.
Use it where you can and see if there isn't a second job than can make up the difference for you.0 -
Stroebel's book values them highly, he identifies it as a Combination Target Scope. It was made between the 40's and the 80's. As the book is ten years old, doubtful that the values he gives are still valid though.
Sell it if you need the money. The market unfortunately is still on the soft side for a lot of older stuff, due to so many folks being out of work and so many homes in foreclosure.0 -
I follow the Unertls quite a bit. They are still desirable but have fallen of a little. The higher the magnification in each size bring more money, for instance the 1 1/4" scopes as I recall the highest magnification is 14X and they would brig the most money. Yours is a 10X. Does it have an adjustable objective, if so it is better than not. Check online to get a fell. I would think in the 500.00 range depending on condition. I just saw a 1 1/2" 20X (the highest for that size sell for 710.00. Not long ago that would have gone for 1.100.00. One of the trends I look at is the selling price at the Wannamaker Show in Tulsa twice a year. (not asking price). Even though the prices may have fallen it takes several shows at least before the asking price starts to drop. Sometimes it is best to wait until the marked picks up. I saw many Unertls and that type that went home with the seller. Variation, condition and magnification make a hugh difference in price. As I said the 1 1/2" 20X that sold for 710.00, do a search and you will find it. I was very supprised and thought it would go for at least 900.00. One of the sellers who has reasonable prices is Mike Sexton, Iron Sights Inc. out of Tulsa. He also does repair on these type of scopes. Check out his web site. 0 -
Herschel has it pegged fairly close with the $600+ figure, add about $100 if you have the wood case. Stroebel's latest book shows a 1&1/4 inch 10X to be $850 in top condition. And, like Rufe-Snow and SP45 indicates, prices are down with the economy. However, if your scope is in pristine condition, it might meet or beat Stroebel's estimate. 0 -
