what does a ..ruby red.. really do ?? is it better than the standard clear lens ?? Thx you for your time on this .

  Avoid lenses with ruby red coatings. They are poor quality, and the red coating is a very cheap coating.

  Coatings at the air/glass interface are designed to reduce reflections and increase brightness by reducing loss of light.
  
  The "ruby red" ones are gimmicky. Yes, they are supposed to do all of the above (and will to some extent), and to increase contrast somewhat by selectively filtering out some light frequencies, but in practice the red coatings in particular are usually used as a selling point for the unwary on relatively low-grade optics.
  
  The better optics will still have coated objective lenses. . .in fact, with the best optics ALL lens surfaces will be coated. . .but the coatings will be virtually colorless (they may have a slight blue tinge) and difficult to see.
