223 brass will not chamber
I came into some primed rem. 223 brass (has been shot before) but it will not chamber into my Rem. model 722 bolt action. I can close the bolt on these, but with too much heft. I know that you can gaul the locking lug with too much of that. Is there a way to size these without depriming? Thanks

All brass should be sized.
Simply pull the decaping pin/rod out of the sizing die.0 -
It might be a sizing problem, and it may also be a trimming problem. If they were not trimmed to proper length, that will also cause a chambering problem. I always full length resize and trim my 5.56 brass to proper specs and they always chamber right. 0 -
Some .223/5.56 X 45 brass that has been fired in semi auto rifles requires requires resizing in what is called a small base resizing die. These special dies are made by a number of different manufacturers. If you have enough of the brass to make it worth your while, best to get one of these small base dies. Long as you lube the brass and remove the decapping rod shouldn't be any problem resizing them with the small base die. 0 -
My book say that there was no 722 made in 223. Are you sure your gun is not a .222??? 0 -

I don't know about Litetriggers rifle, but back in the day it was quite common and easy to rechamber .222 caliber BA rifles to .223. This was done to take advantage of all the inexpensive .223 ammo and brass that was around. The accuracy usually sucked though because a lot of the older .222's had 1 in 14 twist.0 -
Yes, duckhunter is correct. The Rem. 722 were all in rem.222. This one has a new heavy bbl. in 223. Thanks I'll try to resize without the pin. I'll also check the length. 0 -

My bet is whoever primed did a neck resize only, maybe they were going to use it themself and changed their mind - sold the stuff off instead.0 -
personally i would dump the primers as well, how do you know they have not been contaminated and may not fire, primers are not that expensive. 0 -

You may have a rifle in .222 Magnum. If you are trying to chamber thick-walled .223 brass in .222 magnum chamber, you might have a problem.................... 0
