94 Winchester Band Screw

do any of you have a trick for getting the rear band screw in? Im replacing the band because it had a scope mount hole in it. I have 2 others and cant get the screw in. Ive tried bending the screw and tappering the end.

  A lot of the later models had the band screws going in left to right. If the band was removed it may have been turned around. If not, you may try to staighten the screw and clearance the wood where the screw passes through. Good luck.

  Bending the screw is not the answer or correct solution, and I have a hard time believing Winchester would have recommended doing that.
  
  Straighten the screw back out, and then fit test it without the forend stock in place. The position of the magazine tube (rotational orientation) is critical to lining up the screw so that it passes between the barrel and magazine tube and then lines up to the threaded hole in the band.
  
  If everthing fits up fine without the wood in place, then the culprit is the hole through the stock not being perfectly in line with the barrel band screw holes.

  All (100% of the Winchester band screws enter from the left side, regardless of when they were made. That also includes the front barrel bands.
