S&W Sigma Series

I had some unusual experiences with the first S&W Sigma models when they first were introduced in about 1993 I believe. When I went to the police range (not as a police officer) to qualify with it, during 50 rounds fired, the trigger on the Sigma went "dead" on me. Had to rack slide, eject live round (probably could have just pulled slide back enough to reset trigger, but was under timed pressure) and then it fired fine. It did that 3 different times in 50 rounds. Also, I used to work with a lot of ex-cops and the story I got was that the KC, Missouri Police had the Sigmas for awhile but they also had a similar (or maybe the very same) problem. The story goes on to say that S&W took all the guns back and did a "fix" on the triggers and then they worked fine after that. I don't know if that is true, maybe if someone is interested they can Google it or something.

In my case, I took my Sigma home, boxed it up and shipped it back to S&W with a note saying that I never wanted to maybe have to defend my life with a Sigma and that I would pay the wholesale price between the Sigma I was returning and a S&W model 4046 .40 caliber semi-auto all stainless steel. S&W tried to ship it back to me once, saying it was repaired, and I refused to accept it and UPS shipped it back to S&W. Got on the telephone with S&W and told them I never wanted the Sigma back again. I paid a reasonable amount and they shipped me a S&W model 4046 like I had asked for in the first place.

Don't know if any of this helps Rosie, but that is the experience I have had with Sigma.

Oh, one more thing. At the police range, the instructors had made permanent displays of broken, rusted and malfunctioning Sigma parts. They did not like the Sigmas.
