"Barreled by I. O. Stone"
The first centerfire rifle I bought (in the late '50's) was a .220 Swift on a 1939 Nazi 98 Mauser action with a very heavy barrel with the above markings on it. It had double set triggers, Unertl type scope blocks, and a heavy bench rest style stock. It weighs 13.7 lbs. I've always been curious about I. O. Stone. Was he involved, as is my guess, with the early benchresters? Anybody have any info?

I did a quick Google search using the following search string:
"I O Stone" barrel
I got several returns, including this GB ATE forum topic.
Anyway, I did not pursue any of the returns; that's up to you. However it appears this gunsmith was around and doing work in the post-war 1940's......maybe pre-war and maybe in the 50's and later....don't know.

Here I thought this was about dude from Bar-Sto. I wonder if I.O. Stone you're speaking of is a senior and the one I'm thinking is a Junior? 0 -
It may very well be Irv Stone (the STO in BarSto). I have purchased several pistol barrel from him over the years and they have all been excellent quality. I don't know if he was building rifle barrel that far back. If you call BarSto in 29 Palms, CA they will be able to tell you. Real helpful people. Maybe it was his father???
It would appear that they have moved from 29 Palms, CA to SD like Jack First did. They never were in the city of Barstow, CA.0 -
