Colt Python - red front sight - original option?

My friend has a 4" Colt Python that has a red ramp front sight. Did Colt offer this originally as an option or would this sight be considered a modified non factory part? I am not sure of what year of manufacturer his Python is.

  "RRWO" (red ramp white outline) was generally/often/always factory standard sight set.

  YES, my 4" Python made in 1965ad has a red front sight and it is original.

  I strongly disagree that a 1965 Python could have had a factory-installed red ramp front sight in 1965. Parts catalogs from the 1960s do not show a red ramp sight blade part, and sales catalogs do not show such a sight. A factory letter would be needed to verify and I would bet the price of the letter that the sight would not letter.
  
  Red ramp sights did appear late in production, but without checking my catalog collection, I cannot say when they first appeared. I would guess it was in the late 1980s, but cannot say for sure without some research.

  The first ones I remember seeing was on the stainless ones in the mid '80,s.

  JudgeColt, and other Python experts, after examining my Python closer i discovered an"X" the same size as the S/N numbers under the S/N, but not as deeply set as the S/N, it very close to the hinge point, owning this Python for many years this is the first time i ever saw this "X", is this possibly a Colt factory up grade ? it has no signs of a hack job, so if the front sight on my Python is not original then maybe the "X" signifies a factory replacement, i bought this Python from a retired state trooper some time around 1985-86ad, he told me he bought it new in 1965ad as his personal carry firearm, he included the original wood factory grips, and the holster he used, the gun shows very little wear and that is on the left side of barrel near the muzzle and on one flute.
  
  since i found this "X" i am now wanting to know the reason for this "X", it has to be a Colt factory mark as it has blueing over the "X" stamp. (??????????)

  The "X" is probably just an inspector's mark. That is the usual place for them.
