Sweet 16's due for a comeback?

At the trap shoot. Guru Al says with the aging shoulders of most shooters in the camp...

    Not a chance. Maybe a 20 ga.

    There are few choices of loads in 16 ga. The 20 ga 3" Magnum is what killed the 16 ga. and that is what will keep it from coming back.

    Whenever I go rabbit or pheasant hunting, I take a 16 gauge. I don't know why it ever died out. Yes, the 20 gauge will put out the same amount of shot, but so what? A .308 will do what a 30-06 will do yet the latter didn't die out.

    I don't know if it will make a comeback, but it's a great shell and wonderful upland gauge.

    From a manufacturers and retailers standpoint, you can't give away 16 gauge shotguns in the States. On the other side of the pond it's a 180 degrees opposite, they love then over their. Maybe Guru Al should consider moving.

    Its been a few years for me since I was active shooting sporting clays, but it seems about 7 to 9 years ago, many manufacturers reissued pumps and even a couple auto loaders in 16ga. Like above,
    it just seemed to be a fad for a couple years and just didn't catch the eye of many. Too, trap or clays loads were rare and if found were nearly double price of 12 or 20 ga. and not much to choose from, mostly game loads. Most of the side by's were of import origin, so that is explained by it being popular in Europe

    The cost of odd gauge ammo is similar with pistols. Best to stick with the popular rounds and save $$ when shooting...

    Have to pass around the hat at the range for guru Als trip to the land of the Euros. Maybe he can sell his 16 ga there!

    Browning completely dropped the Auto 5 shotguns from their lineup, almost 10 years ago. So tell Guru Al, that he is wishful thinking, and he needs to change what he is smoking in his pipe. Thed "Sweet Sixteen", was in fact a Browning Auto 5. As for other manufacturer's, you might see a few scraggler's here and there, but don't look to see more than a handfull on this side of the pond.

    Americans think bigger is always better so a stong comeback is doubtful. I am with Al on this. I don't own a 12 ga. 16's and 28's. Try to go smaller rather than larger. Same with rifles.
