paperwork increase value?

Buddy has a 1964 vintage Colt Agent 38 snubbie he got from his father - excellent condition, has been used/shot but not much - no turn ring on the cylinder. Original grips, etc. Gun is in near perfect shape. Similar ones from completed auctions are worth $450-500.

However, he also has the paper work that the gun came with - warranty card, etc. No box unfortunately.

Does the paper work add to the value? Is the paperwork and box valuable separate from the pistol?

  As has been mentioned, the Colt paperwork has value separately or additive to the gun, but truthfully, not very much. The original to the gun box is what would add significantly to the value of the gun. Also, the box is worth much more separately than the paperwork.
  
  Depending of what Colt paperwork comes with the gun it might add $50, maybe a little more, but it would need to include the correct original "Handling the Handgun" pamphlet; it would be the non-color version.

  Paperwork, yes, though not that much.
  Box, yes, worth more.
  Both have some value even sold separately.
  
  I think your estimated price of $450-500 is probably about right if the gun is really in 99% condition. If you had the box, that would probably add another $75-100.
  
  Original sales receipt isn't something people usually talk about (and its hard to judge the value), but if you have one, that's also something that adds to the provenance and "character" of a collectible gun.
